They honeymooned in a hotel in Dublin. The Black and Tans came in to search the hotel.

They would have shot father but he could produce evidence that he had served in the British Army in the Great War

I like the way my father – Bill Mooney – is seated comfortably while Mother is standing! Mother’s hem is a story!

Mother lived in lodgings in London when she was working in the Civil Service.

Mother’s friend, who also lived in the lodgings, did not want her to marry Father. She didn’t want to lose her friend.

Mother didn’t want to go back and collect her clothes from the lodgings – she couldn’t face her friend, who was a bit dominating by the sound of it,

 so Mother had to buy new clothes to get married at short notice and looks like there wasn’t a lot of choice with size.

They were too big and she had to hem them herself. She wasn’t good at hemming, poor Mother
