This is a hybrid website and blog, to record the descendants of
The family grave in Co. Cavan
The family grave in Co. Cavan

John McCann and Margaret Hague.

The pages will cover each of the descendants, and their children over six generations. If you have any comment to make, go to the Family Stories page and you will be on the blog portion. It’s quite possible that some of the information is inaccurate, so please use this facility to put it right. I hope you enjoy exploring your family tree.

The picture of the family grave opposite has the following names engraved on it:

Navigation
The first generation is John and Margaret McCann and their children. Any name in blue with an underline is a link to that person’s page. The second generation then, is their grandchildren, or our parents (Vincent McCann and Rita McCann etc.) Third Gen will be their Grandkids, and so on. The pages are also listed down the side.
This website and blog will not be of much use unless family members make a contribution, so we need your input. You can do this by putting in stories about your family in the blog section (Family Stories) or by e-mailing me directly. I’ll make sure your stuff goes in the relevant page. Thanks in anticipation. Derek.

This is a recent photo of the Old Schoolhouse where the O'Rourkes lived in Ballyhaise. It was recently bought and renovated.

The Catholic Church in Ballyhaise. When Tony, Pat and myself went up for the summers, I can remember going to mass there – in those days, all the women sat on one side, and the men on the other. The women had to have their head covered. This is where I can remember being at the funeral of Grandpa Patrick in 1952. The church is just a few yards down from the old Schoolhouse where the O’Rourkes lived back in the 50’s.

Patrick McCann
Patrick McCann – born 1855. He was a sergeant in the RIC which explains why the different children were born in different counties, as he was moved around the country. After his retirement, he worked in Crumlin Road Jail as a warder and then as a farmer in Cavan.
